What is Acupuncture?

What is Remedial Massage?

Remedial Massage is a hands-on assessment and treatment of the muscles, tendons, ligaments and connective tissues in the body. Its purpose is to assist in the rehabilitation of injuries, and to address  musculoskeletal injuries, tight muscles, pain, headaches and arthritis. Remedial Massage is used to identify and repair damaged areas of the body whilst aiding and stimulating the body’s own healing processes. Using several firm remedial techniques Meagan promotes the flow of blood and lymph, particularly to injured over worked or stressed areas in the body, which reduces and repairs damaged cells, increases joint mobility and reduces scar tissue. Massage is a great opportunity for the body to unwind, relax and repair.

The pressure applied in this healing treatment can either be strong and deep or gentle and shallow, depending on the problem.

Problems with the muscles can trigger or radiate pain to other parts of the body. Remedial massage aims to trace the original reason for the pain, tackling both the cause of the problem and the symptoms.

Who is remedial massage for?

Remedial massage can be used to help people with:

  • neck, shoulder or back pain

  • preventing injuries

  • headaches

  • sports or other injuries

  • arthritis

  • chronic pain

  • fatigue

  • stress, anxiety or depression

What does a remedial massage involve?

A remedial massage session typically begins with an assessment phase where the therapist evaluates the client's condition through discussion of medical history and physical assessment. Based on this assessment, the therapist develops a personalized treatment plan aimed at addressing specific musculoskeletal issues or injuries. During the session, the therapist uses a variety of techniques such as deep tissue massage, trigger point therapy, and myofascial release to target areas of tension and pain. They may also incorporate stretching exercises, joint mobilization, and heat or cold therapies as needed. Throughout the session, the therapist communicates with the client to ensure comfort and effectiveness of the techniques applied. Post-treatment, the therapist may provide advice on self-care practices and recommend follow-up sessions as part of a comprehensive approach to improving muscular health and overall wellbeing.

5 Benefits of Regular Massage

Here are five benefits of regular massage therapy:

1. Stress Relief

Massage therapy can help reduce stress levels by promoting relaxation and triggering the release of endorphins, which are natural mood elevators.

2. Pain Relief

Massages can alleviate muscle tension and soreness, making it effective for managing pain, such as in the back, neck, and shoulders.

3. Improved Circulation

The pressure applied during massage helps improve blood circulation, which can enhance the delivery of oxygen and nutrients to cells and tissues.

4. Enhanced Flexibility and Range of Motion

Regular massage sessions can loosen muscles and joints, improving flexibility and range of motion, which is beneficial for athletes and those recovering from injuries.

5. Immune System Support

Some studies suggest that massage therapy can boost the immune system by increasing the activity of white blood cells and reducing inflammation.

These benefits can vary depending on the type of massage and individual health conditions, so it's essential to consult with a licensed massage therapist to determine the most suitable approach for your needs.
